Ok so I know I shouldn’t complain about upstate NY winters because someone from likeĀ Greenland is going to email me and be like shut it wussie it is negative 40 every day of the year! But this is my site so I can complain if I want!
Anyways, the northeast winters can be brutal. Some years are worse than others. You have the ridiculous freezing but not too terrible snow fall accumulation years. Then you have the eh it is really cold but at least it has stayed above zero for the last few days years. You have the freak years where it is either unusually mild or you get hammered with 25 inches of snow on a regular basis.
But the winter does not have to be the enemy. I have decided the only way to really get through the long winter is to become really good at a winter sport. I have tried skiiing and alas I have no natural talent. That is not to say I am giving up, but I won’t be teaching skiing lessons anytime this millenium. Snowtubing however, now there is a sport for me. Ok so it really isn’t a real sport but you do go to a ski resort, and you do where a ski outfit so that is pretty darn close in my opinion. You climb up a snowy hill and some 16 year old boy chucks you back down it on your tube. Really, can it get more fun than that? You need zero skill. All you need is a good pair of waterproof pants and a tube. And they provide you with the tube!
I have also always wanted a pair of snow shoes. I have never been snow shoeing but the idea appeals to me so maybe this will be the year. The more snow related fun the better! If there is one thing I have learned about living in NY state for my entire life is that you better find a way to enjoy the snow, or else.
