Married people live longer?! Phew, good thing I’m married!

So with my one year wedding anniversary approaching this Fall, I have been thinking about the benefits of marriage. Do married people really live longer than single people? According to this article they do.

But besides a longer life expectancy what are the other benefits of marriage?

Personally I think being married is pretty rad. You have your best bud with you, you have someone to share the chores with (depending on your spouse that is!), you always have someone to go to the movies with, you have someone to try out new recipes on, you have someone you are allowed to fart in front of, you have someone who is required to listen to boring stories/lame jokes, and the list goes on and on.

It is pretty great knowing that you have a partner in crime for life.

But what about single people? Are they doomed to a shorter life expectancy? I don’t know what all of the scientific evidence states, or which has more truth to it, but I do know this….Whether you are married or not, do not worry about your life expectancy. Worry about living a good life, having fun, keeping your body healthy, connecting with people, laughing, and all the stuff you actually have control over. I have to believe that if you are single, a great friend can do as much for your health as a great spouse. Surround yourself with good people and whatever the span of your life turns out to be make sure it is a great one.
