So I know that today is not technically the last day of the summer but it sure feels like it. I will forever look at August 31st as the last day of summer because September always meant going back to school. The last week of August was your last chance to whoop it up before school began and all the fun was over.
However, in many ways the start of the new school year was the most exciting time of all. Seeing your friends again, seeing your crush again, getting new teachers, new assignments, a whole new year with endless possibilities. It’s funny how most of what I remember from school is from the in-between times. Those times in between classes, or right before and after school, riding the bus, etc. The times where relationships were made and broken within a matter of 5 minutes, where a huge problem could be solved over lunch and you could have a new crush by the end of 3rd period. By the time you got home from school at the end of the day you had experienced a whole weeks worth of excitement. And the next day would be just as interesting, if not more. Maybe there would be a new kid this term, maybe so and so would break up, maybe the dance would be more fun than you expected or the football team would win 3 games in a row for the first time ever!
Ah to be a kid on summer break. I can’t say I miss those times really, but I do wonder what would have happened if I knew then what I know now. Guess I’ll never know, but it is fun to imagine it.
Happy last day of summer.
