So basically I have turned into one of those cat people. People who spend hours at petsmart picking out the perfect Christmas gift for an animal that has no clue what Christmas is, let alone cares enough to celebrate it. This is my first cat mind you, I made it all the way into my mid-twenties before becoming one of those cat people.
Anyone who has a cat knows that cats are very expressive animals, they use sound and touch to communicate and are often very vocal with their human companions. I was really intrigued to find this article detailing the specific language cats created just for humans. Could it really be true? Cats only meow to us and created a whole separate way of commuicating with their human owners? Just when you thought your cat was smarter than you…you were right!
I often find myself responding to my cats noises. It seems relatively easy to determine a hungry meow from a - I am just hiding in the bathtub and meowing cause I am bored and want you to chase me - meow, from a hurt meow, etc. But I never imagined that my cat had actually created a language just for me and that I was in fact understanding it and responding appropriately. Go figure!
To me, animals are indeed a part of the family and need to be respected as well as protected. I loved my cat from the moment we adopted her and brought her home. I have often wondered whether she was happy living with us instead of running amuck in the wild somewhere. It is actually comforting to know that she does make an effort to communicate her needs to us in a special way she thinks we can understand.
Dang, I wish that dog whisperer guy spoke to cats!

i agree! my babies have their own sounds. KOGA trills a certain way when he’s happy about something & pushes his nose against my lips if he’s hungry. GSXR has a meow for hunger, post-poopoo, for calling mummy or daddy, and if she’s in trouble or have done trouble. thanks for sharing the article.
