Holiday shopping hours turn people into jerks.

What is it about the month of December that turns people into shopping monsters? Yes it is the holiday season, yes people are spending a ton of money on a ton of people and maybe they are stressed. But why do people act so nutty this time of year?

Retail stores are opening at ungodly hours and staying open til all hours of the night to accomodate the shoppers but even that doesn’t seem like enough. No matter what time a store stays open until there will still be people showing up at one minute before closing and whining and complaining about not being able to shop. What is it with these people?! Don’t pretend you think that showing up at Macy’s at 11:30 pm is going to give you 4 hours to shop! When they make that announcement saying the store is now closing, please bring your stuff to the register now, they actually mean NOW.

I cannot for the life of me understand the change that occurs in people this time of year. It’s like they become shopping monsters. I have seen people break things and walk away, fight with fellow customers over an item, fight with staff over the lack of an item on Christmas Eve - hello of course they cannot order another one in the one hour you have left to make it to your party! Online shopping has helped a bit by letting some of the shopping monsters shop from home, but it doesn’t stop the problem entirely. There will always be crowds and craziness and people need to learn to deal with it without losing their minds.

Keep this in mind this holiday season:

Few children can stand getting dragged around a toy store while you shop for other children for 3 solid hours without a bribe. If yours can’t leave the poor kid at home and save yourself the trouble.

If you decide you no longer want to purchase something, don’t chuck it on the floor try to put it back where you got it in the first place.

Have fun. Buying gifts for loved ones should be fun so don’t let rude shoppers get to you. If someone is acting like a shopping monster in a store just put a smile on your face and keep going.
