Laugh if you must… I have a stocking for my cat. This year she is getting some cat grass, a ball, some treats and a new fleece blanket to sleep on. I think she deserves some Christmas cheer even though she doesn’t have a clue it’s Christmas. Her two favorite things about the holidays, sleeping under/eating the tree and laying on and tearing into perfectly wrapped presents. Ah to be a cat with no cares in the world at Christmastime!

She believes the tree belongs to her. Once the last ornament has been hung on the tree, the lights turned on and we walk away, she takes her place of honor. Lays under the tree with her back to the wall looking out at us to make sure we do not try to approach her special indoor forest. If she is feeling especially frisky and you get too close to the tree, let’s say to put a present under it, she will jump out and smack you in the leg and then return to her post. It is a fun holiday tradition in our home.

I don’t mind the cat commandeering the tree, smacking us in the leg or even the occassional rip in already wrapped presents. I am fascinated by how in awe she seems to be of the lights and the new decorations and the smell of a poinsettia. Besides who could resist this face?
