They say, and by they I mean some research team somewhere whose name I cannot remember, you should do something every day that challenges you mentally. For example, if you are right handed, try writing with your left hand for one hour. Or try learning one phrase in a new language, etc. For me, that mental challenge is driving a car other than my own. It wakes up the senses and makes me focus on driving more intently.
I am so comfortable with my car that I barely have to think about driving it. I know where every button is, how everything works, etc. But when I drive another car, usually my husband’s, it is a whole different ball game. All of the buttons in his car are the opposite of mine. His seat sits lower in the car so the line of sight is very different, his mirrors are shaped differently, his radio oh boy don’t even get me started on his radio!
Of course there are plenty of other ways to perk yourself up mentally. Buy a new cell phone; just trying to figure out which command controls the mp3 player inside your tiny phone can take you days! Oh and another personal fav, board games. Board games are always a good way to stir things up in the old noggin.
