I have a cat. A cat that wakes me up at about 6 am everyday, regardless of whether I need to get up that early or not. Apparently this phenomenon is known as Alarm Clock Kitty. The cats are acting out their natural desire to hunt and feed. However, I don’t think it is all that simple. I feed my cat before I go to bed, with enough food to last her the night and I try to play with her before bed as often as possible to tire her out.

I am starting to think she just wakes me up for the fun of it. She usually meows like crazy until you grumble or move around enough so she knows you are awake. Once satisfied she retreats to her cozy basket bed and goes back to sleep. I am convinced she is either just lonely, just snotty or just bored.

At least I know I won’t oversleep on the days I really do need to get up at 6 am!
