Superbowl commercials, not so impressed.

This year’s Superbowl commercials really didn’t do it for me. I missed K-Fed’s ad because I was changing over the laundry but I did catch it online. Thought it was pretty funny, but the rest of them? Not so much. I did enjoy the Oprah/Letterman watching the show as lovebirds one though.

Every year our expectations get higher and higher for these commercials. Companies spend weeks promoting the ads that will air for the first time during the Superbowl. They spend 1-2 million dollars on 30 second spots, so as one would imagine the expectations are through the roof.

So why weren’t they great this year? This past year has brought some funny commercials from a few different companies. Take Geico’s caveman advertising campaign, not too bad. The more recent caveman commercials are even funnier than the first few. They have a winner on their hands. But some of the other advertisements are getting played out. Take Jessica Simpson for Pizza Hut. She is at a premiere and finds out cheesy bites are back so she jumps in the limo and goes to get a pizza. Is that supposed to be funny? Besides we all know Jessica Simpson doesn’t keep that body by scarfing down entire pizzas in her limo, next!

The Snickers commercial where the two guys eat the same snickers bar and sorta, almost end up kissing was slighty amusing but lost me somewhere. Most candy companies focus a lot of their energy trying to appeal to children so this one kinda threw me. Budweiser came through with a decent commercial, with the crabs stealing the cooler of beer. But where are the Clydesdales? I miss them and I don’t even drink beer!

I guess a lot of the new commercial ‘characters’ are just played out or less endearing then they used to be. I must admit that a big part of the reason I watch the Superbowl is for the commercials and the half time show. This year the game was exciting but the commercials, not so impressed.

What was your favorite commercial from the Superbowl?
