Where everybody knows your name

There is something warm and inviting about going to a restaurant (or other establishment) where they know you, or at least pretend to know you. My husband and I have a few local favorites where they say things like, “Where have you been?!” when you haven’t eaten there in several weeks. It is funny how hearing that from a restaurant owner sorta makes you feel special. Like, wow they actually recognize us and missed us eating here for the past 3 weeks!

Did they really miss us? Probably not. Did they confuse us with someone else? Maybe. But regardless, everyone loves that Cheers feeling, where they know you and like you.

Whether or not they recognize you isn’t really the point. If you think about it, it’s good PR. As a restaurant owner, it makes sense to create a friendly relationship with every customer that comes in. If someone sorta looks familiar go out on a limb and pretend to recognize them. They probably aren’t going to correct you if it is there first time dining there, and if they have been there before they will get a kick out of it.

So true. We go to one restaurant, not because the food is so great (it’s okay) but because the people who work there treat you like family.
