Did you know how many cool courses the American Red Cross has available? Tons! I knew that they were a great resource for health and safety information but it wasn’t until I did a search for pet first aid that I realized all they have to offer. They of course offer regular cpr in addition to pet first aid. They also offer child safety courses for expectant parents and child care professionals in addition to other safety courses. One class I would have liked to have taken is the babysitting course. I babysat from the time I was 12 all the way through highschool and I think a course like that would have been helpful. If you are interested in taking a course in your area you can search for your chapter and then find a course schedule for your service area.
Another great resource is the American Safety Classes site. It provides a listing of defensive driving classes in New York and New Jersey. You can search by county and find all of the available classes in your area. Even though this class is somewhat boring it is well worth the insurance discount and the point reduction (if you need it) on your license. I took the class for the insurance discount and actually learned a few things in the process. Did you know that in NY you must park 12 feet from a fire hydrant? Every single person in my class got that question wrong! We all thought it was somewhere between 5 and 7 feet. Nope!
