Teetotaled.com is a weblog about nutrition, healthy lifestyle choices, self-improvement, and overall enjoyment of life.
Been having a tough time with my site this week. It has spent a lot more time down than anything else. So you might be getting used to seeing a 505 error when you come to teetotaled.com instead of anything I have written. Hopefully all that is behind us now!
Ok moving on. The Imus controversy has been at the forefront of the news this week. When I heard about it one of the first things I thought of (after Jesse Jackson got involved) was why is it front page news when Imus says a derogatory comment but any (and almost every) rapper says that and much worse and no one makes a peep? Then I came across Michelle Malkin’s site and knew I wasn’t alone in thinking this. You can visit her site here – scroll down to her post from April 10th entitled Imus vs. the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks Chart. I say Amen! Michelle.
You can’t overreact when one person behaves this way and completely ignore and under-react when a huge part of the community is acting the same way, or worse, on a daily basis. A musician can call a woman a ho ten times a day and it’s no big deal but a radio personality does it once and he is crucified? Something is very wrong with this picture. Worry less about Imus’s one nasty comment and focus more on an entire culture’s acceptance of this kind of language in popular music.

Yay! Glad your site is working again.
Totally agree on the Imus thing. There’s a much bigger problem when a culture accepts shock jocks’ and rappers’ derogatory comments and violent lyrics as entertainment.
Don’t understand why Imus, who is, overall, a fairly intelligent guy needs to resort to such crude schtick. Ick, is all I have to say–about all of it. The double standards, the hyposcrisy, the gross lack of general human decency in much that passes for entertainment. Just ick.
