The drive-in is open…well mine is anyway.

It’s May which means it is also drive-in season! One of my favorite times of year. The drive-in is one of those experiences, like camping, that you might have some preconceived notions about but can never really understand until you try it. And once you do, I am pretty sure you will be hooked. Before I went camping for the first time all I could think about were the bugs…all those icky bugs trying to get me. Then I realized with a little skin so soft and a huge fire, the bugs, they don’t bother you so much. And sleeping on the ground? Actually kind of awesome. Seeing a movie from the comfort of your own car…with the luxury of bringing in as many snacks as you want without having to hide them…definitely awesome.

Another added bonus to the drive-in is that it is super kid friendly. As I do not have any kids (yet) I kind of took this fact for granted. My friend (who is about to give birth) reminded me the other day how much the drive-in appeals to new parents. You can take your newborn out with you, no babysitter, no disturbing other people and having to get up and leave, no worries about breast feeding, and actually enjoy a night out with your husband and your baby from the comfort and privacy of your own car. Not many places where you can bring a newborn with no worries of changing diapers in crowded bathrooms, feeding in public, crying, etc. Just one more reason the drive-in is one of my favorite places!

For all of you out there, like me, who love the drive-in I suggest getting an Ozoner card. You can sign up for one here. This card works at various drive-ins (I believe throughout the country-don’t quote me) and entitles the card holder to different discounts (regulated by each drive-in). My drive-in gives me a free medium popcorn when I show my card, not too shabby!

So if you are looking for something fun to do this spring/summer check out your local drive-in. You probably won’t want to go to a regular movie theater ever again and will have to move to a warmer climate that leaves their drive-ins open 8 months out of the year. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

We have one near us too. They’re great! We always bring a big picnic and blankets, make a bed out of the back of our station wagon for my daughter, and make a night of it.

We also make a bed out of the car :) Really love watching a movie from the comfort of our own car. Can’t beat it!
