Now this makes me nervous….altering the DNA of plant life.
I understand the logic, feed more people by producing more food. But at what cost? Give this article a good read, and tell me if it doesn’t give you goosebumps. It introduces a whole new concern over food allergens for one thing.
I am all for technological advances but when it comes to altering the DNA of any living thing, plant or otherwise, I get nervous. What’s next?
Buying organic gets more appealing by the day!

I think we’ve probably eaten a lot of genetically altered food without knowing it.

This kind of scares me too. And, alas, most of the choices we have today are between crops heavily sprayed with pesticides, herbicides and insecticides … or … genetically modified ones. Or both. Ugh.

Well, as far as genetically modified foods being harmful to people, you have to remember that genetic mutations occur all the time in nature, and as far as I know no plant has ever mutated in a way that will give people cancer or something. I mean, there are foods that aren’t good for you, and there are poisons, but it’s pretty easy to figure out which ones those are. I don’t see why mutations caused by people would be any more dangerous than those caused by chance and natural selection.
