According to a recent study the domestication of cats can be traced back as far as 10,000 years to the Middle East. Wild huh?
Can you picture a farmer in Israel 10,000 years ago with a pet cat? No wonder they make such good pets, they have had 10,000 years of practice!
Doesn’t it make you wonder how your typical domesticated cat can retain so much of their natural survival instincts when they have spent thousands of years coexisting with us humans? They must have us pegged by now for sure. Which is why even the most aloof kitty is often treated like royalty from their human. I don’t say owner because I don’t love that term. I don’t feel like I bought my cat as much as I adopted her, at least that is the way I like to look at it.
At any rate, I like knowing that the relationship between cats and humans has been going strong for thousands of years. Let’s hope the planet is here long enough to make it another 10,000 years of cat/human studies!

I believe that in terms of evolution, 10,000 years isn’t much at all — and this is the reason cats can easily revert to their wildness. Dogs, on the other hand, have been domesticated for (I think) much longer.

Yes it is! I can always tell when Lulu is going to lose it. She gets this wild look in her eyes. I know to withdraw. otherwise she’ll grab my arm and sratch it up pretty bad with her hind legs!
