TMI

Too.much.information.

You know you have been stuck in one of those conversations, the TMI person is telling you about something you have no business knowing and probably wish you didn’t hear. You are trapped with nowhere to run and nothing to do but smile and nod. Eck!

This article reminded me of some funny overshare moments in my life. That isn’t to say I have not been guilty of this as well, I’m sure we all have from time to time. There is also the accidental TMI - the person who leaves their door wide open and has the loudest crazy phone conversation in the world knowing 15 people are sitting about 3 feet outside the door and can hear every word. This is sometimes even worse because you have to pretend you didn’t just hear what you heard.

The script describing how not to be an oversharer is pretty funny:

Keep yourself out of trouble by learning how to filter your own TMI tendencies. The key is knowing your audience. For instance, here are some appropriate ways to answer the question “How was your weekend?”

— To an acquaintance: “Oh, it was great! I spent time with some old friends.”
— To a friendly co-worker:  “A bunch of us went to a bar. Good times!”
— To your best friend: “We got so wasted, I can hardly remember what happened!”

Bottom line, if your Grandma says, “How was your weekend?” and you went to a wild bachelor party just lie.

That sounds like very reasonable advice but I find it’s usually more fun just to lie anyway. Well, at least it’s more fun for me.
