So as you can see from the recent pictures, I just got back from my first trip to Vegas. I was curious to see what someone like myself who does not drink and rarely gambles would think of the infamous Las Vegas scene. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. There really is something for everyone and we had a blast! While we didn’t get a chance to go to any shows on this trip, I would imagine from the long list of prestigious entertainers that you could keep yourself busy seeing concerts and other performances for several days.
What we did do a lot of is sightsee…cruising the strip! Walking through all the different resorts and seeing the sights was one of the most fun and inexpensive parts of the trip. Depending on where you are staying you can take the free tram or the monorail (for a fee) to different spots on the strip. The water/light show at the Bellagio is as spectacular as people say it is. (I would love to stay there sometime, the hotel is gorgeous!) We spent a lot of time at Mandalay Bay as that was where the wedding festivities were (that was the reason for our trip, the wedding of friends - which was wonderful by the way!) and other friends were staying. If you are looking for nightlife and a younger crowd this is definitely the place to be. The rooms were beautiful and there is plenty to do and see from the Shark Reef (we didn’t get to) and the Lion enclosure (which we passed by).
We stayed at the Hilton, which is considered on the strip since it is connected by the monorail but is technically a block or so off the strip. It was moderately priced and more mellow (and a bit smaller) than most of the popular hotels like MGM or New York, New York. A couple of friends stayed there as well and we all agreed the rooms were great and it was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the main part of the strip.
So all in all, Vegas rocked! It is an expensive town but if you are willing to hoof it a little and search for reasonably priced food you can enjoy yourself without spending a fortune. Oh and I highly recommend penny slots - they keep you busier longer.
A few more pics for your viewing pleasure:
Our room at the Hilton - very cozy!
Oh yes Trekkies, the Hilton has a Star Trek themed restaurant - Quark’s. Of course we ate there!
The fabulous Bellagio. The water/light show is breathtaking.

This is Paris at night…we had dinner at….

I’ve never been a big fan of Vegas, but it is an experience. I remember the streets being littered with ads for escort services.

Oh yes the ads got a bit much…the people handing them out were, uhm, interesting.
I was surprised how clean things were in general. I was expecting it to look like the aftermath of a frat party!

As a guy from the other side of the world Vegas is like another Galaxy! I’d love to go though, just to have ”the experience”! Especially seeing as I’ve only ever been to US once!

Even for someone from the U.S. it seemed a bit like another galaxy
It is definitely a cool place to visit!
