If there is one thing house hunting has taught me, it is to look beyond the junk. Oftentimes you will walk into an open house or a private showing and the house will be filled with junk. You would think the owner would tidy up for such an event but that is not always the case. Food out on the table, laundry on the floor, naughty movies on the kitchen table (yes we saw this!) - you name it and people leave it out for all to see.
It takes a bit of imagination to walk into a home with garbage everywhere, a home that has not been properly cleaned in years and see the potential hiding underneath. Is it just dirt or it is something worse going on underneath? Will I be able to clean/fix this home to get it where I want and need it to be?
We have had a few disappointments along the path to find our first real home together. Recently we found out a house we bid on (and lost to someone else) might be available again. We were overjoyed if not a bit cautious. A second chance. We are waiting to find out if the deal officially fell through yet so we can move forward. We had a feeling this particular diamond in the rough had our names on it the first time we saw it. Fingers crossed.

My wife and I once bought a house that had a mushroom growing in the bathroom.
