For fear of jinxing myself I am not going to say too much about it, but it looks like we are (soon to be) homeowners. Ahhhhh! Ok that is all I am going to say.
Anyway…we have started some preliminary packing/cleaning/sorting. I forgot how much it stinks to pack! Because before you can do the serious packing you really need to go through all your stuff, donate the stuff you don’t use, clean, sort, etc. I have been bringing all sorts of stuff to Salvation Army. Some things I don’t even remember getting. Why do we save free gifts we have no intention of using? Because it’s free and it’s not broken so we feel guilty, right?
I started a technique for moving my clothes in college than I plan to carry on for the next move. This pertains to your most worn clothes, the ones that will definitely make it into the bedroom closet, no matter how small the closet is. This only works if the clothes are already hung up on hangers in an existing closet. Instead of taking all of these clothes off of the hangers and putting them in suitcases, simply poke a hole in the bottom of a large garabage bag and cover a small cluster of hangers with them (pretend the garbage bag is a garment bag of sorts). Depending on the size of your clothes I would say anywhere from 4-8 hangers can usually be covered by one garbage bag. Since the bag is upside down, you can tie the bottom so no clothes fall out. Then you can transport the clothes like this in your car or truck (making sure to lie them flat) and immediately transfer them into your new closet. Obviously you wasted a few garbage bags but hey garbage bags are cheaper than U-Haul boxes and it is an easy and fast way to get clothes from one closet to another. No folding, no rolling, just cover and move!

Good luck with your–hope I don’t jinx it–home ownership.
I hate packing too, but it does force some hard decisions so that your possessions don’t end up possessing you.

Thanks Jan!
Yes we have been freeing ourselves from lots of old “stuff”. Very liberating!
