Bridezilla

Bridezilla - “Bridezilla is a generic term used to describe a difficult, unpleasant, perfectionist bride who leaves aggravated family, friends and bridal vendors in her wake. A bridezilla is obsessed with her wedding as her perfect day and will disregard the feelings of the family, bridesmaids and even her groom in her quest for the perfect wedding.”

Have you ever seen the show Bridezillas on WE TV? It is so over the top it makes me think these “brides” may just be actresses. In a recent promo, they show one Bridezilla being left at the altar because of her behavior!

Bridezillas is like a car accident - if you flip through the channels and happen to catch it on you cannot turn away. Every time one of the brides curses out her bridal party or tells her groom-to-be she hates him and will never marry him, I get sucked in deeper. I hate the fact that I have actually seen an entire episode of this show, it is terrible. Half of the people on these shows (and not just the pissy brides) seem completely wacked. Sometimes the grooms and mothers of the bride are just as bad, if not worse, than the actual Bridezilla.

After watching this tasteless show more than once it made me wonder what would posess someone to go on a show called Bridezillas. So I came up with a short list of questions I would ask the ladies on this show.

1. Did you know the show was called Bridezillas when you agreed to go on it?

2. If you are that psycho, why would you let someone film you?

3. If you tell your future husband that you hate him and won’t marry him on a daily basis, why are you proceeding with the wedding plans?

4. If you look right into the camera and tell the crew how much you despise your future inlaws/bridal party/vendors/the world - did you think they would edit that part out?

5. Did anyone involved in your wedding still speak to you after they saw you on this show?

This show is all that is wrong (and right) with reality TV. It is painful to watch and makes a mockery out of the people involved. But that is what we love about reality TV, right? We can’t help but be drawn in by other people’s insane behavior. Is it real? Are they really going to get away with acting like this? I guess it makes us feel a bit better about our own lives. Afterall, if you can plan a wedding without becoming a complete mess like these girls than you can’t be that bad right?!

I can’t stand reality TV. Mostly because it doesn’t in any way resemble reality.

I am embarassed to admit that I occasionally get sucked into this crap-o TV. I do think a lot of these “reality” people are just actors though.

I have seen so many real life brides who may not be as bad as those on the show, but they are willing to hurt their friends, family, the groom, strangers, anyone, because this is “my day.”

One acquaintance didn’t want her best friend as a matron of honor because she didn’t wear the size 6-8 that all the other bridesmaids wore. It ruined a long friendship for life.

wow Jan! I guess weddings can really bring out the beast in some brides!
