The worst movie accents of all time

I must say, this list of worst movie accents is pretty dead on. Especially this part about Kevin Costner — “Special Award: Kevin Costner, “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” (1991), “JFK” (1991), “A Perfect World” (1993) and “Thirteen Days” (2000)
A lot of people hate Costner now, and with plenty of good reason, but I’ve always had a soft spot for him. That softness, however, only covers the roles in which he speaks in his native flat accent. In the films listed above, and in many others, Costner reveals that the ego of megastars often leads them to believe they are capable of any feat. Four feats this former megastar is not capable of: an English accent (”Robin Hood”), a New Orleans accent (”JFK”), a Texas accent (”A Perfect World”), and a Boston accent (”Thirteen Days”).”

They forgot to mention Julia Roberts in Mary Riley.

Poor gorgeous Keanu is mentioned in here as well. Some actors should stick to their normal accents and leave the Shakespeare and Irish brogue to people like Kenneth Branagh.

Basically it is the Americans who stink at other accents. Take most British actors you are familiar with and see how well they can pull off an “American” accent. It is embarassing people! Seriously who thought it was a good idea to make Costner fake an English accent?! Come on!

Ahhh, I love terrible movie accents. I actually wasn’t too familiar with all of the accents on the list, but I agreed with the ones I’ve heard/suffered through.

Have you heard Jon Voigt’s slurred, unknown foreign accent in Anaconda? It’s either the worst movie accent ever or the most brilliant performance of Voigt’s celebrated career. Personally, I think it’s the former but I like it anyway.

Oh my gosh, Anaconda was so horrific I had almost blocked out the memory of Voigt’s insane accent. Between his accent and J Lo, well I don’t need to say any more do I? :)

Of course the classic bad line is Tony Curtis: “Yonder lies muh fodder’s cassel.”

    LOL Jan!

I like how Halle Berry dropped her accent between the 1st and 2nd X-Men movies.

The really weird thing is when Kevin Costner does an accent when he doesn’t need to, like in Waterworld. I mean, what was that?

  6. Sarah Says:

Diesel, gotta love the continuity between the 1st and 2nd X-men!
LOL, Waterworld was so bad I don’t even remember the weird accent! :)
