I recently posted that we bought a home. Well we did, and we are in the process of doing some renovations. We have a lot of cosmetic work to do, painting, cleaning, etc. (I will post some before and after shots once we complete a few more things.)
Owning a home is still a bit surreal to me. I love that it is all ours and we won’t have to deal with crazy, drunk, college kids anymore. Many of our neighbors are families with small children or are retired. No trace of drunk, wild, idiots, anywhere! (So far!) But I will miss the ease of owning an apartment. The toilet is making a noise? Call the office. The light fixture is humming? Call the office. Now there is no one to call but myself (and my husband). Which both thrills me and slightly scares me as well.
In the short time we have owned our home I have realized that I am more capable than I knew and that working hard on your own property, well, it really is a lot of fun. However, two months from now I may be singing a different tune. After 6.5 years of living in apartments with free heat (free=included in the rent) I may be a bit shocked at what it will cost to heat my entire house during a typical upstate NY winter. Guess I better get used to sleeping in sweats huh?

Do you have a fireplace? We’re putting one in our addition, and I’m hoping we won’t even have to use our furnace. Of course, we also have a couple of tons of firewood and we live in northern CA, not northern NY.

We do have a fireplace! We are very excited to start using it. I have always wanted one.

I’m sure there are people but I don’t know them who sold and went back to renting voluntarily.

I definitely know people who love the apt/condo style of living. I can tell you I won’t miss the plain white walls and ugly apt carpet!
