Once…

Looking for a movie to add to your Netflix queue? See Once - a film written and directed by John Carney. You can find out more about this film by going to IMDB  - Fox Searchlight - or MySpace.

Thanks to Dooce for recommending this movie back in September. Unfortunately, it was not playing in any theaters within a 100 mile radius of my home so I had to wait for Netflix.

My attempt at a brief movie review:

The American girl part of my brain was waiting for the cheesy hollywood ending that never came, thankfully. Part of the charm of this movie is how real and intimate it feels - without all of the typical big-movie garbage thrown in. I dare you to see this film and not become obsessed with the soundtrack. To say the music is haunting and beautiful is a gross understatement. The songs in this film are the kind of songs that stick with you for days after hearing them, like the songs of youth that mark major milestones and still pop up in our memories from time to time.

“Falling Slowly,” Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova, Once

(Woot!!!)

*Update* - My sweet husband just bought me the film’s soundtrack as well as The Swell Season cd (songs by Glen and Marketa - who are both from the film). I sense a music review coming soon…

You know what? I really enjoy your blog. I think I’ll check out that movie. I’ll let you know, but it’ll be awhile.

Say, about Panera Bread: (I just ate there recently, BTW) Another great eatery you might consider is Jason’s Deli. It’s a national chain, but each store has a pretty long leash when it comes to Menu, customer service, catering and so forth. They have a great menu here in The Big City. In Dallas, I used to go nuts just driving by… If you can, check out Jason’s.

Paul thanks so much for your comments! This movie is really great, it is quickly moving up my list of favorites. I love movies with fantastic music!

I checked out the Jason’s Deli website - no locations in NY state yet though :(
