In recent weeks, Hollywood has suffered two unexpected loses due to tragic deaths of young actors. Both Brad Renfro and Heath Ledger recently passed away, both deaths involve an air of mystery regarding the exact cause of death. I find myself being particularly moved by the death of these young and talented actors, probably because they were both around by age. I am transported back to my freshman year of high school, the day Kurt Cobain died. I remember thinking I would always remember that day, and I still do. It goes without saying that when a young person dies it is especially stinging.

These last couple of days the coverage of Heath Ledger’s death has been pretty overwhelming. It seems that everyone is speculating about a possible drug problem, depression, you name it. Brad Renfro’s death was also reported as a suspected drug overdose. Regardless of how they died, their contribution to film will be missed, and hopefully that is what they will be remembered for.

If you do find yourself getting caught up in the coverage of all this sadness (most media outlets make it hard not too) take a moment to send out a prayer to the families of these young artists. It must be particularly hard to grieve with this circus going on. May they find peace.
