With the writer’s strike still on I have been going through some serious award show withdrawl. Yes, I love award shows - love watching the red carpet beforehand, love watching the performers accept their awards and I even love watching the after-party coverage in the days that follow. There is something magical about award shows. This year some of them have been cancelled or scaled back. Luckily, last night the SAG awards went on as planned. The SAG awards are an easy award show to watch, it is not an incredibly long show and there is a smaller amount of categories in which awards are given. It is kind of like a starter awards show to get you ready for the Oscars.
Last night did not disappoint. Some incredible dresses, some not so incredible, and overall some really unique and heartfelt acceptance speeches. Charles Durning and Daniel Day Lewis’ speeches were my favorites - both from the heart and not too long. Perfect!
You can always spot the non-celebrities at these awards shows, they are the ones who are actually eating the meal in front of them. Try it next time you watch an awards show (not all feature meals but the SAG and Globes do), try to find the people eating their meals. When the camera pans over Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts or Reese Whitherspoon, check out their plates. I gaurantee they will be completely full, not one bite eaten. But if you see someone finish their salad and move on the entree they are either A) A writer, or B) someone’s girlfriend/friend/date.

I got an award at a banquet several years ago. I know the feeling of not being able to eat at the time.
