I will not die an unlived life.
I will not live in fear
of falling or catching fire.
I choose to inhabit my days,
to allow my living to open me,
to make me less afraid,
more accessible,
to loosen my heart
until it becomes a wing,
a torch, a promise.
I choose to risk my significance,
to live so that which came to me as seed
goes to the next as blossom,
goes on as fruit.

This is an excellent poem, Sarah. I take exception to the part about “…catching fire,” though. Yes you should fear catching fire. I caught fire once. The pain is beyond compare. But it only lasts for 6 weeks or so. And then wouldn’t you know it? Just a few years ago our home burned down and we stood outside with nothing but the clothes on our backs. Please use caution.
