At the end of 2007, my husband and I purchased our first home. After several years of renting, not counting the 4 years spent in a college dorm, it feels incredible to own a little piece of the Earth.

Now that the weather has finally turned to spring (knocking on my wood desk, please god do not let it snow again!) we have been enjoying our yard and especially our deck. If someone had told me how deeply I would fall in love with my deck I don’t know if I would have believed them. I grew up on a quiet street and had a decent sized backyard to play in but I never new the joys of having a deck. It is hard to describe what it so fantastic about it. Maybe it is the unique vantage point of looking down on your property, or the fun deck furniture, or being able to eat outside without teetering to one side because your chair is stuck in a small divot in the yard. Whatever it is, is is wonderful and I am so glad we decided to buy a house with a deck.

I think it is going to be one heck of a summer!
