That is the motto at the gym I joined - the no judgement zone! It is written on the wall and explained to you when you join. There will be no angry guys throwing weights around and grunting and hooting at you, in fact if they do engage in that behavior an alarm sounds on the wall. I guess the idea is that the gym is open to everyone, regardless of fitness level, without fear of being stared at, hooted at or made to feel awkward in any way. So far the no judgement zone seems to be living up to its name. There is certainly a wide array of people working out at any given time. Sure you have your college age buff guys who work out 24/7 but you also have a lot of people over 50, both men and women. It is a nice mix actually.
I am working on getting over my, “everyone is looking at me and I feel like a dork” thing. In realty, no one is looking at you and you don’t look any more like a dork than anyone else. So off I go, hitting the treadmills!
