Sex and the City was known for many things; over the top clothes, wild relationships and embarrassing situations (many of which revolved around sex). Cosmopolitan studied Sex and the City’s memorable hook ups and break ups to see what this show really taught us about love. The results are pretty surprising! An excerpt from the article:
Case study: Carrie and Aidan
Hot furniture designer Aidan was everything Carrie thought she wanted in a man: emotionally available, honest, and ready to commit. Aidan wanted Carrie to meet his parents, have the keys to his apartment, and eventually be his wife. She attempted to change by quitting smoking (and nixing her addiction to Mr. Big), giving country life a shot, and wearing his engagement ring around her neck. But no matter how hard Carrie tried, she couldn’t commit to any of it. While Aidan seemed perfect on paper, he wasn’t the ideal guy for Carrie.
Lesson #2: Don’t change for a man, no matter what.
Anyone else still sigh when they think about Carrie ending her engagement to Aidan? And for those Sex and the City fans who remember the episode when Carrie went to Aidan’s “country house”, I would like to clarify something: The town his house was located in was supposedly Suffern, NY. I am from Suffern and let me tell you that house was definitely not located in Suffern. The house that Aidan owned resembled something closer to what you might find on the outskirts of Albany or Schoharie County but certainly not in Rockland. It always bugged me so I had to set the record straight. ![]()

I watched very little of Sex and the City. But I watched a number of episodes with Aidan in them. I thought he was totally sexy and probably as close as you can get to the perfect man. But he was not suited to Carrie. No matter how perfect a man is, if he’s not perfect for you, then it’s no use hanging on to him. Let him go and find the one that will suit him.

I hear what you’re saying. I often see cowboy movies that are “located” in certain places in Southern AZ. Tucson, Tombstone, Cochise County, Bisbee… It really bugs me when some Hollywood movie lot claims to be somewhere else. “3:10 to Yuma” is a good bad example. Oh well. And thank you for clarifying the location of that house. What if I had suddenly stumbled upon it. I would have thought…whew!
I’m from Southern AZ, by the way. Douglas, right on the Mexican border.

Oh yeah Paul, movies do that ALL the time. It always bugs me! I’ll have to watch 3:10 to Yuma now that you mention it
