Last night we BBQ’d as we often do in this lovely weather and as we were sitting on our deck eating our dinner I noticed something out of the corner of my eye…a cat on our grill. A stray cat, actually 2 stray cats must have caught the scent of my husband’s steak and one of them had hopped up on our grill to retrieve it. I immediately panicked because the first thing I thought of was oh my goodness the cat is on fire, but thankfully he was not. When we walked over to investigate he hopped down and hung out in a nearby peony bush hoping to take another stab at getting that steak.
Eventually we decided to hand over the steak, mostly because my husband didn’t want to eat a steak that a stray cat had been fondling. So we threw it into the field behind our house for the cats to devour at their leisure. I know you aren’t supposed to feed stray cats for many reasons but I think in this case they earned that steak. Anyone who is willing to jump up on a hot grill to fetch their dinner deserves some slack in my book. Of course I won’t be surprised if tonight there are 5 more cats hanging out around the grill ready to order their dinner. ![]()

I wonder if they liked my marinade… I thought it was particularly good last night.

We, once, had a cat hanging around our grill - in the dead of winter - because we were grilling salmon!!! You really can’t blame them.
