After much anticipation I recently saw Tropic Thunder. The trailer has been cracking me up for months so I knew I would enjoy it and I did. Despite the mixed reviews I got from friends I had a feeling I would laugh myself silly and I did. This is exactly the kind of summer movie I like, easy to watch, easy to follow, and one that makes me laugh out loud again and again. If the trailer for this film doesn’t make you laugh then don’t go see it, you will probably hate it and think it is stupid.

However, if you like films that poke fun at Hollywood and even the actors themselves (and aren’t easily offended by off color humor) then this movie is for you. Some of my favorite moments are the fake movie trailers that are shown at the very beginning of the film. All I can say is Tobey Macguire…!

I was particuarly curious about Tom Cruise’s much hyped role in the film. You might not recognize him at first…as this is his first film (I think?) where they actually disguise his boy next door looks. The dancing (you’ll understand if you see it) I am a little on the fence about but overall I thought his performance was very funny and it was refreshing to see him do something so opposite from his usual roles.

I recently heard that Robert Downey Jr. almost did not take his role in the film because this movie began filming two weeks after he finished Iron Man. Thank goodness he did! I cannot imagine anyone else pulling off this role. At this point I would pretty much see anything that he was in.
