I’m hooked on Last.fm

Last.fm is an online music service that can learn to play songs it think you will enjoy based on your profile. I use the free version of this service and although I was skeptical at first I am now completely hooked. It is in a word…awesome.

There are a few different ways to use this service. I choose to save tons of songs to my personal library and then play music right from there. It allows you to tag certain artists or even one particular song you like and add it to your library, and from there you can also make separate playlists. You can also type in an artist you enjoy and it will play you other music it thinks you will like based on that choice. For example, if you type in Joni Mitchell, it will play you other folk/female singer songwriters.

If you like to listen to music while you work, this is a great website. Once you put enough artists in your library you can just let it play all day long without worrying about it. Of course there are times when I skip a song or two if I am not in the mood for a certain artist…which I could avoid if I made more detailed playlists but at the moment I just don’t feel like it.

Another fun feature…if your friends are on last.fm you can listen to each others playlists. There are tons of other features that I don’t know how to use so check it out for yourself.
