So it is finally fall…officially. I have been claiming it was already fall for about 3 weeks now. Basically, Labor Day weekend signifies fall for me. You summer enthusiasts will shout - but it was still summer dang it! Yes, yes, I know that most of September actually falls under the summer category but as far as I am concerned once Labor Day comes and goes and the first school bus drives down the street it is fall!
In addition to the first day of fall (on the calendar) signifying the official start of the season, here are a few ways I can usually tell that it is really, truly, officially, fall:
- I am cold when I wake up in the morning - bye bye summer weather, it’s time to sleep in socks!
- My cat exhibits what I call her “cold weather behavior” - which means she starts acting like she actually likes us, leans up against me when I am laying on the couch, sleeps at the foot of the bed, etc. Basically she is trying to bogart my body heat but I like to think that she is showing me some affection.
- Seeing random coats lying on the sidewalk - the neighbor kids are now sent out to play with coats on. Unfortunately these coats are not long for this world and get tossed into my yard, the sidewalk, or their porch, but seeing them lying around lets me know that fall is here.
- I have a craving for cider - drinking cider over the summer is OK but for some reason it just feels weird. However once you flip that calendar to September chugging cider while eating cider donuts suddenly seems much more appropriate.
