I recently met up with my parents in Woodstock, NY to hang out and have lunch. I had driven through Woodstock before and had been to some of the surrounding towns but had never really hung out there for the day. I knew it was a “hippie” town but I underestimated how truly hippie the people were. Walking around Woodstock I felt like I was transported back in time. The clothes, the musicians hanging out in front of the church playing folk music, the make peace not war type of signs on every corner, the head shops….it was like walking through a tunnel and coming out in 1969!
It seemed as if this tiny town was frozen in time, untouched by recent events. Woodstock could almost pass for one of those model villages. You know the ones where everyone lives like they did in 1880-whatever, milking cows in a floor length dress and sewing by candlelight, etc. Years from now, perhaps people will ride through Woodstock to watch the hippies in action, doing the same things they have been doing since the 1960’s.
The simplicity of Woodstock makes it a magical place, there are great cafes, cool boutiques and some of the best people watching you could ever hope for. I hope they never loose that vibe because once it goes, there is no retrieving it.

Well described. These places seem magical, but too rare.
