In honor of Christmas I would like to share one of my favorite holiday memories. When I was young we would sometimes go to my great aunt and uncle’s house during the week of Christmas. My uncle would always hang an extra stocking on the fireplace and fill it with coal. He would tease the children, myself included, that the stocking full of coal was for them. This is a favorite memory because A) I was old enough to know he was joking and B) because going to that house always reminded me of my grandmother and my other relatives - many of whom are long gone now. My great aunt has since sold the house but I will always remember the sights and sounds of those holiday visits….and the lumps of coal!

For awhile there I thought you might want to keep the coal to use as fuel with prices getting so expensive. Fortunately they’ve reverted back…
Merry Christmas to you and your family. See you on the other side…

I had an aunt who always wrapped up a lump of coal for all the nieces and nephews. It was in a different size box every year. we had to choose which box to open the coal or the real present.
