I cannot imagine anyone not knowing about craigslist.org, but in case you don’t let me explain to you how fabulous this site is. I call it a site, wikipedia calls it a “central network of online communities,” you get the drift.
Anyway…craigslist features a variety of free advertisements, job postings, forums, etc. You can buy things, sell things, look for a date, look for a ride somewhere, look for a new job or basically anything else you can imagine. Like any site of this magnitude there are some spammers/weirdos (thankfully I have not encountered any personally) but have read the warnings, etc. I have applied to jobs over the years through this site, bought things, sold things, found garage sale listings, etc. The thing I like most about craigslist is that it is free to use. You don’t have to pay to list something to sell or log in to view the listings, etc.
Anything that is free and easy to use gets an A+ in my book. And unlike eBay (which is also fabulous) you can limit your searches to your local craigslist (you can search by city and/or state) so you can usually pick up or drop off any items you buy/sell. As much as I like ebay it sometimes burns me to have to pay shipping fees for something that costs only a few dollars.
Why am I posting about craigslist today? Here is a great example of why I love craigslist: Yesterday afternoon I posted an ad on craigslist to sell our papasan chair and matching ottoman. I included a photo of it, a bit of info, the price we were looking for, etc. Less than an hour after I placed the posting online I went to the grocery store, by the time I returned home from the grocery store a couple of people had emailed about the items, my husband responded and they came and picked it up/paid for it. Within two hours of posting the ad online the chair and ottoman were gone! That was a very fast turnaround, even for craigslist, but it can happen from time to time. I have also posted things that never sold but in general it is a pretty great resource.
Anyone else love craigslist? What kind of things do you look for/buy/sell?

I too have used Craigs List for a long time. I have noticed though that the for sale lists have become more of a dumping ground for cheap crap and it’s harder to sell quality things on there.
I’ve used ebay almost since it’s inception. I thought the golden age of ebay passed a couple of years ago. They went to hiding the user names of other bidders and winning bidders and so I don’t know how they prevent shill bidders from scamming people now. Did you know you can search for things locally on Ebay? Try the advanced search.

Hi VE. I have never tried the local search on Ebay thanks for letting me know about that. One of the reasons I have always favored Craigslist is that you can stick to your local site to avoid paying shipping.
