I had a feeling, like I think most people did, that Slumdog Millionaire would sweep the Oscars, and sweep it did! I think the final total was eight Academy Awards. I have never been so happy to see a movie win so many awards. Yes it was the dark horse favorite that everyone knew would win, which can often make you wish a movie wouldn’t win, but this film is different. There are no blockbuster American stars, no fancy sets, no $50 million production budget. This film was shot in Mumbai with a cast that very few Americans would recognize, although there were a few major Indian film stars in it.

I guess the best way for me to describe this film is to say that it is the kind of film that when you walk out of the theater you are a bit sad that you just saw it because it was so incredibly refreshing and great that you wish you could have the experience of seeing if for the first time again. If you haven’t seen this film yet I would highly recomend it. Yes it is very hyped at the moment, however I would advise you to go into it not thinking about all the awards it has won and just enjoy it for what it is, an incredibly inspiring and moving film.

With all the medicore films that come out each year it is thrilling to see a truly stellar film get so much recognition. Go Slumdog!
