As someone who is part Irish, St. Patrick’s Day is always a fun day. Even though I don’t drink green beer or eat corned beef I still enjoy it. And who doesn’t like Irish soda bread?!
Today is also my mother’s birthday (happy birthday mom!). Do you know how hard it is to find a Happy St. Pat’s/Happy Birthday card? It isn’t easy. And if you do find one it is the same one you have sent that person the last 5 years. I always felt bad for people whose birthdays fell on a holiday because the holiday will almost always overshadow the anniversary of their birth. However, on a day like St. Pat’s when lots of people are out and about celebrating the fact that they are - aren’t -or wish they were Irish it would be easy to pretend that everyone is really celebrating you! That is what I would do anyway.
Every St. Pat’s I can’t help but think of my paternal grandmother who made the most amazing Irish soda bread I have ever tasted. I have the recipe and I usually make one every year in her honor, although I don’t know if it will ever taste the same as hers no matter how many times I make it.

Sadly, I’m still all Dutch. The uncoolest ethnicity there is.

Diesel, aren’t there any Dutch beer festivals or something to that effect? Sorry for the uncool ethnicity

Hi, I come from Spain, and I am a teetotaler. It is hard sometimes, but I don’t like alcoholic beverages, and I find myself great and can have a lot of fun without drinking alcohol. I am also very interested in Slavic and Celtic countries, which makes things still harder, because in all those countries there are too many hard drinkers, and I always have to come up with “explanations”, such as telling that I am taking some antibiotics or the like, for avoiding ugly faces and scorning gestures… It is great to hear about a partly Irish person who does not drink alcohol.
