Always been here
It is funny how after you bring your baby home you literally cannot remember life without them. It is as if the world resets itself on the day of your child’s birth. Nothing that took place before that day could possibly compete with every thing that comes after their birthday so old habits, old routines, simply fade into the background.
On the day my daughter was born I remember feeling like she had always been a part of my life, as if my heart had always been full of love for her. I was thinking about this while falling alseep the other night and Dawn Summers immediately came to mind. I won’t bore you none Buffy geeks, I mean fans, with the long version but suffice it to say that Dawn is a character introduced late in the show that is magically remembered by every cast member even though she has never appeared on the show before. It is as if Dawn has always been there even though she didn’t show up until season 5 or so.
FYI - Yes it takes a Buffy geek to think of these things late at night while they are falling asleep.

I know exactly what you’re talking about–sans Buffy. My First Wife and I have talked about this more than once. It is something special, isn’t it? The same thing happens when your grandchildren get here. From the moment you see/hold them–you’re right: the world resets itself. (I remember thinking once that one of my grandkids ought to remember something. Oops. Child hadn’t even been born yet.)

I know exactly what you mean. When we were in the hospital, I remember telling my husband that I knew she’d only just arrived, but I couldn’t imagine that we’d ever been without Charlotte.
Then, when we left the hospital, the other thing we talked about was how it didn’t make any sense to us that the world had just carried on, because for us, the entire world had stopped spinning for a couple days while I gave birth and we adjusted to our new life with baby lol.
