Before we brought our daughter home lots of people warned me that our cat would become a second class citizen. They said we would barely remember we even had a cat once the baby was on the scene. I thought these people were just kidding - how could we forget we have a cat?!
Well…they were right. I am sorry Miss Nals but some days I barely remember you are living in this house with us. Thankfully you leave me lots of reminders like throwing up in my bed or breaking into the nursery and scratching everything in sight. Obviously you realize that I need a little help remembering to take care of your needs so you do these things to refresh me memory…I appreciate it :p
I hope the cat will take some solace in the fact that the baby seems to love her! She watches her with a hawk eye…stops whatever she is doing when the cat walks into the room and smiles at her. Sometimes she even whines when the cat leaves the room. Of course the cat wants nothing to do with her not-so-secret admirer, but well, that’s a cat for you.
So to my cat: The baby’s eyes light up each and every time she sees you. Cut her some slack and sit next to her once in a while so she can gaze at you, OK? At least somebody still respects you in this house! ![]()

When the baby is a little older the cat will realize she has another member on her staff to serve her.
