I don’t get to watch a lot of adult TV these days. What I do get to watch is a lot of children’s programming, like Super Why and Sesame Street. Did you know Sesame Street has been on for 40 years?! Seriously…40 years of awesomeness! Go Sesame Street!
While watching Sesame Street this week I took note of a few major changes that the show has made since I first watched it as a child.
- The characters use computers - Elmo (who wasn’t around when I was a kid) has an email account and gets regular emails from other characters.
- The show teaches Spanish phrases. I remember learning some sign language back in the 80’s but don’t remember learning any Spanish.
- The show mixes a lot of animation in along with the regular characters. Should I call them puppets? Not sure…
While the show has updated itself quite a bit it still retains its original charm and positivity. I hope it goes another 4o years. Here’s to more wholesome programming on TV!

One of my favorite shows. But with my pesky work schedule, I don’t get to watch it that much anymore.

I am so with you on breathing in sweet air. My daughter is well past the Elmo stage so it was fun to have you catch me up on the changes!
